The morning is cheerfully cold, a lovely Southern winter’s day in Atlanta; the sun makes not one bit of difference to the temperature but it shines bright across the clear blue sky. A few police officers stand around Pemberton Park in the city centre, coats zipped up and wearing hats with earmuffs that dangle down each side of their heads, gently reducing them from figures of authority to parodies of Elmer Fudd. They drink coffee, smile and nod as I wander past. This is the entrance to The World of Coca-Cola and somewhere discreet loudspeakers are playing Coke’s most memorable advertising jingle, ‘I’d like to buy the world a Coke.’ Which may explain the earmuffs.
I like to think the company plays this song as a hymn of thanks to the Atlanta Development Authority who gave them $5.4 million to help pay for the park landscaping and the entrance plaza, or the City Council who scrapped $1.5 million worth of sales tax for the company, or indeed the property tax worth $2 million that the Atlanta city fathers decided they didn’t want Coca-Cola to pay.
Coke might be worth billions but they are not averse to sticking out their hand for loose change, especially when the loose change has six noughts at the end of it........

There was considerable confusion last week when the leader of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church apparently told an Italian news agency of an upcoming announcement about the possible public display of the Ark of the Covenant – the box holding the Ten Commandments – and then the prescribed time passed with no word.
However, there was no equivocation today in an e-mail received by WND from the webmaster of a church website in response to an inquiry about the truth of the matter.
"It is not going to happen so the world has to live with curiosity," said the statement, signed only "Webmaster" in response to the WND inquiry.
The webmaster statement described the tempest as being caused either because of a translation mistake or "a slip [of the] tongue from the patriarch." read more

... Neighbors of Von Brunn said they had recently invited him over for a drink, and out of the blue, he said the Holocaust did not occur, the Post reported.
Todd Blodgett, a former White House aide to President Ronald Reagan who later became affiliated with extremist groups, said he spent a lot of time with Von Brunn in the 1990s and early 2000s.
"Von Brunn is obsessed with Jewish people," Blodgett told the Post. "He had equal contempt for both Jews and blacks, but if he had to pick one group to wipe out, he'd always say it would be Jews."
Von Brunn went so far as to say he fought on the wrong side of World War II, according to Blodgett.
"You'd get the impression that he was intelligent and a bit off," said Blodgett, who worked as a paid FBI informant on white supremacist groups. ... "

Ark hunters and Bible enthusiasts have been buzzing for two days on the report from the Italian news agency Adnkronos that Patriarch Abuna Pauolos, in Italy for a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI this week, said, "Soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries." read on

It seems that Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark wasn’t as fictional of a movie as we once thought. World Net Daily, a fundamentalist Christian “news” site is claiming that the object of the Spielberg/Lucas film, The Ark of the Covenant, has been found.
According to their sources, the magic box which held the original Tex Commandment stone tablets and burnt of the Nazis in the first Indian Jones film has been hiding in a Church in Ethiopia was nearly 3000 years. They claim that a special guardian is trained to watch over the Ark until he dies and is replaced with a new guardian (just like in the third Indiana Jones film dealing with the Holy Grail).
So while the Ark of the Covenant has been hidden for over 3000 years, for some reason the Ark’s Guardian has revealed its existence to the world today. Why now? Because as Indiana Jones put it at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, “It belongs in a museum.” That’s right, the super holy man in charge, Abuna Pauolos who is the head of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia, believes that the Ark should be shared with the masses after 3000 years of hiding to be on display as a tourist attraction in… where else, Ethiopia. He is currently meeting with Pope Palpatine to discuss the Ark and its contents........

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Richard Nixon and the Rev. Billy Graham believed Jewish opposition to Christian evangelism efforts would foster anti-Semitism.
"Deep down in this country there is a lot of anti-Semitism. All this is going to do is stir it up," said the former president in a Feb. 21, 1973 phone conversation with Graham, a leading evangelist.
The exchange was part of 150 hours of audio recordings released Tuesday by the Nixon Presidential Library.
Graham responds that anti-Semitism in America is "right under the surface" and that Jewish criticism of a major evangelism effort would bring it "right to the top."
Nixon responds, "Anti-Semitism is stronger than we think. You know, it’s unfortunate. But this has happened to the Jews. It happened in Spain, it happened in Germany, it’s happening -- and now it’s going to happen in America if these people don’t start behaving." read more

Mootoo refused to talk to the press and leading forensic pathologists have commented about the absence of autopsies and use of embalming at the scene.
Many of the dead were identified by survivors, while others wore plastic wrist-bracelets. All of these i.d.'s were ordered removed just before the dead were eventually shipped back to the US and they arrived, anonymously, in body-bags. No-one knows why. The Guyanese records were destroyed in a fire set by local politicians, who pleaded guilty to the crime without explaining it. Forensic records are unprofessional and incomplete........

Brumidi (1805-1880) was born and trained in Rome and had painted in the Vatican and Roman palaces before emigrating to the United States in 1852.
A master of creating the illusion of three-dimensional forms and figures on flat walls, Brumidi painted frescoes and murals throughout the Capitol from 1855 until his death. The canopy fresco, his most ambitious work at the Capitol, was painted in eleven months at the end of the Civil War, soon after the new dome was completed, for $40,000. Suspended 180 feet above the Rotunda floor, it covers an area of 4,664 square feet.
The figures, up to 15 feet tall, were painted to be intelligible from close up as well as from 180 feet below. Some of the groups and figures were inspired by classical and Renaissance images, especially by those of the Italian master Raphael........
